The Impressionist Art Game
Fall 2002 GamesReview:
This book-and-game duo is a treasure for the entire family. While children
become acquainted with masterpieces of the Impressionists through a picture
card game played in the style of "Go Fish," teens and adults learn from the
book how historical events led to the development of Impressionism. A
double-page spread matching each picture card briefly shows what to look for
in each painting, explains artists' materials, and reveals how they achieved
special effects. The author's children helped select the art, so it's no
wonder that the bright colors, loose brushwork, and many paintings that
included children, appealed to our young testers, too. Whether read before
or after a museum visit, this book and game will enhance one's understanding
and appreciation of painters from Magnet, Monet, and Renoir, to the
highly-regarded women artists, Berthed Morison and Mary Cassett.
