El Perro Y El Gato: Sigue Soñando/Keep On Dreaming
Spring 2012 TelevisionHBO Home Entertainment presents El Perro y El Gato: Sigue Sonando/ Keep on Dreaming, the most recent episodes in the series of animated short segments that run on HBO Latino. The series is aimed at preschoolers, who are likely to get a laugh out of El Perro, a fast-talking, tail-wagging dog, and his best pal El Gato, a laid-back purple cat of few words. They communicate through a mix of English and Spanish, a novel approach to bilingual education. Thanks to a combination of dialogue, action, animation, and on-screen text, little viewers will have no trouble understanding the narrative and acquiring basic foreign-language skills in the process.
Each segment runs under five minutes, and storylines take El Perro and El Gato to a variety of locations. From visiting a library to learning about firefighters and holidays and jobs and chimpanzees, each new adventure provides an opportunity to learn common vocabulary words and improve reading skills in both English and Spanish. One episode, "New Friends," is particularly clever, following El Perro and El Gato on a trip to the park. El Gato meets some intimidating dogs and the encounter spirals into a tribute to the songs of the famous musical West Side Story. Each episode ends with a review of its featured vocabulary words.
Thanks to quirky animation and witty scripts that don't take themselves too seriously, El Perro y El Gato: Sigue Sonando/ Keep on Dreaming manages to pack a powerful educational punch plus a liberal dose of entertainment and laughs.
