Nick News with Linda Ellerbee
Spring 2012 TelevisionFor over two decades, Linda Ellerbee has been at the helm of her news show geared toward tweens and teens. Nick News isn't a typical news show, with sports and weather and anchors recounting local crimes. Instead, no-nonsense Ellerbee, usually sporting orange high-top sneakers, uses the time to inform kids about real-life situations. Each episode is more a documentary than traditional news, and Ellerbee knows how to present her subject matter well.
The shows speak directly to kids, answering the questions she knows will be first and foremost on their minds. What is it like to live with cancer? What happens exactly? How does it feel? And she lets kids do the talking to provide the answers. The shows are achingly real, shining a light on topics that most suburban kids don't ever have reason to think about or face. But they are positive, enlightening and empowering, showing the strength, humor and hope that kids possess.
There's a reason it's the longest running kids news show on TV. It's informative, important and inspiring-for kids and adults.
