Toca KitchenSpring 2012 Mobile Apps
Toca Kitchen comes from the popular developers at Toca Boca. The interface is clean and easy to use, and it engages a child in an activity that interests them (in this case, cooking) in an accessible way. The goal is for the user to experiment with different things, and the simple, text-free interface encourages that. Moderate feedback from the 'customer' is enough to prompt the child to do more, and delight them (He LIKES that!) without wearing them out. With each item, from slicing or cooking in a grill, the user can see quickly the effects of their choices, and just when my son thought he'd 'done everything', he discovered more combinations he could try.
This passes the success test, not only because both of my children return to it again and again, but because this app is the one they choose to show (and play with) their friends.
