Cicada
Spring 2012 MagazinesIf you were lucky enough to attend a high school that had a really good literary magazine, then you have some idea of what Cicada offers: well-written short fiction, neatly crafted poetry, and beautiful pen-and-ink artwork. Each issue is built around a theme, such as "Hands" or "Connections," and the various creative contributions illuminate the theme from multiple viewpoints. Much of the writing is contributed by up-and-coming talents in MFA programs, but there are always several pieces by high school and college students. Young adults who love creative writing and art will welcome this addition to their supply of reading material, and many may find an outlet for their own submissions. And when they're done, their parents can read the cast-off issues, because adults of all ages will enjoy the intriguing short pieces featured in Cicada.
