Tom Thumb
Fall 2011 DVDIn 1621, The History of Tom Thumb earned the distinction of becoming the first fairy tale ever to be printed in English. This story of a little boy no bigger than his father’s thumb has seen many retellings ever since. In a new 25-minute DVD version, actor John Cleese narrates the story to the tune of music by singer-songwriter Elvis Costello. Tim Gabor’s illustrations are gently animated using simple dissolves and subtle motion, but the visuals are so rich and amusing that little viewers probably won’t even realize it isn’t a fully animated program. The fantastic adventures of tiny Tom Thumb will simply sweep them away.
