Review:

In 1621, The History of Tom Thumb earned the distinction of becoming the first fairy tale ever to be printed in English. This story of a little boy no bigger than his father’s thumb has seen many retellings ever since. In a new 25-minute DVD version, actor John Cleese narrates the story to the tune of music by singer-songwriter Elvis Costello. Tim Gabor’s illustrations are gently animated using simple dissolves and subtle motion, but the visuals are so rich and amusing that little viewers probably won’t even realize it isn’t a fully animated program. The fantastic adventures of tiny Tom Thumb will simply sweep them away.

Tom Thumb is presented by Rabbit Ears Entertainment LLC. Although it’s their first release in over ten years, the company has a history of featuring powerhouses talent like Meryl Streep and George Winston. The seasoned talent truly elevates Tom Thumb’s story. Whether you watch it at home with your children, or present it to a classroom of kids, Tom Thumb offers a mesmerizing combination of music, art, and language sure to entertain children and adults through the inevitably requested repeat viewings.
